April Ferrous Scrap Exports Up 36.7%

April ferrous scrap exports totaled 1,476,282 net tons (1,339,262 metric tons) with Turkey, Taiwan, Korea, Mexico, and China being the top five importing countries. These countries accounted for 73.2 percent of all scrap exports.

Total April ferrous scrap exports were 0.7 percent higher than previous month and 36.7 percent higher than the same month one year ago. Although April exports were steady over March, tonnage to some counties changed as much as 80,000 tons, with large fluctuations in shipments to Turkey, Taiwan, China, Egypt, Pakistan, and Malaysia. Compared to the same month one year ago, there are significant differences in tonnage levels going to the select countries we follow, but the overall results shows imports up 396,241 tons.
