US Steel Shipments Fall in February: AISI

US steel mill shipments declined 3.2% in February vs. January, and were off 4.4% from February 2022, the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported on Wednesday.

Domestic steel mills shipped 6,917,842 net tons in February, compared with 7,148,270 tons in January and 7,232,679 tons in the same month a year earlier.

AISI said that shipments year-to-date in 2023 stood at 14,066,112 tons, falling 6.2% vs. 2022 shipments of 14,990,351 tons for the same two months a year ago.

Also, AISI added that comparing shipments year-to-date this year to the first two months of 2022 shows the following changes: corrosion-resistant sheet and strip (-5%); cold-rolled sheet (-9%); and hot-rolled sheet (-10%).
