Alro’s recycling capacity to reach 100,000 t/y

Romanian aluminium company Alro is to increase recycling potential by 60,000 t/y following installation of two double-chamber furnaces, a holding furnace and associated fume collection and treatment plant at Slatina.

Though high energy prices have forced the company to cut back on primary aluminium production, its other commitments remain unchanged, according to chairman Marian Nastase who said: “We are determined to continue our efforts to diversify our products portfolio, increase efficiency and reduce our environmental footprint.”

The original recycling plant, consisting of a double chamber, induction and holding furnaces plus related equipment, was commissioned in 2013. This year’s expansion will take Alro’s capacity to recycle solid aluminium scrap to 100,000 t/y.
